GM-Uzbekistan production entered Top 10 bestselling cars in Russia

Sales volumes analysis in the car market of Russia in the first half of 2010 proved that cars manufactured by Uzbek-US joint venture GM Uzbekistan at Asaka car-making plant entered the top ten bestsellers.

Having reviewed sales dynamics in the Russian market, Automobile Manufacturers Committee of the Association of European Businesses stated that in the first half of 2010 GM Uzbekistan sold 32.316 thousand cars, which exceeds the indices of the same period of 2009 by 17 per cent.

According to the sales volumes, Uzbek carmaker got the seventh place. Rather fruitful for the Uzbek exporters was June 2010, which recorded 77 per cent growth of sales.

Nexia became the bestselling model among Uzbek manufactured cars. The first cars of this model were launched at Asaka car-maker in July 1996 and shortly after that the model became export oriented car. In March 2008 there appeared in the market a modernized version – Nexia-2, which practically heralded the beginning of GM Uzbekistan joint venture activity. It is this model that is widely marketed both domestically and internationally. Today Nexia ranks eighth among the most popular cars in Russia and holds third position in the list of bestselling imported cars.

No less popular is another model of Uzbek car-maker – Matiz minicar. Though it ranks only eleventh, according to sales data the demand for this model in the first half of 2010 grew by 6 per cent compared to the same period of 2009.

Today GM Uzbekistan exports its production to more than 10 countries. Russian Federation continues to be the main importer of Uzbek cars.
