On May 18, 2011 the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan issued a resolution “On measures aimed at regulation of taxicab services”.

In accordance with this resolution new Regulations on unified marking and operation standards for taxicab services are to be enacted from January 1, 2012.

The Regulations stipulate that all taxicabs should be completed with unified permanent marking identifying them as operating as taxicabs. All taxicabs should have a roof light of orange colour with a “TAXI” inscription, whereas a composition of black squares arranged in staggered rows and letter “T” in the middle as well as the name of the taxicab company should be printed on the front doors of the vehicle.

Only coloured coded cars are allowed to perform as taxicabs: yellow coloured cabs for all cities of Uzbekistan and ivory coloured cabs for Tashkent city.

Each taxicab should be completed with a fare meter, and should carry information plate with indication of the car license number, name of the driver, work starting and finishing times, fixed fare rates (in local currency), address and telephone numbers of the taxicab company, information on license conditions and mandatory insurance of the vehicle. Each car should be completed with terminal for credit card payments.

It is planned to construct special taxi ranks by January 1, 2012.
